Dr.Verawat Champreda received his B.Sc. (1st class honour) in biochemistry from Chulalongkorn University and M.Sc. in molecular genetics and genetic engineering from Mahidol University. He then received a scholarship from the Royal Thai Government to continue his Ph.D. in biochemistry and biocatalysis at Imperial College London in UK. After finished his Ph.D. in 2003, he has taken a research position at the National Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (BIOTEC), Thailand and is currently the head of the Enzyme Technology Laboratory. The work of his research team focuses on exploration of microbial bioresources in Thailand for industrial enzymes through culture-dependent and culture-independent metagenomic technology and application of the enzymes in key industrial sectors. His specialized research interest is in development of lignocellulose degrading enzymes and microbial systems for biotechnological application. He is now also appointed as the coordinator of the newly established NSTDA-JGSEE Integrative Biorefinery Laboratory, which will focus on multi-disciplinary R&D in biomass conversion technology for production of fuel and chemicals from renewable lignocellulosic biomass through multi-disciplinary catalytic and biocatalytic routes. During 2004-2012, Dr.Verawat has published more than 40 international research articles with many patent applications. He received the Young Scientist Award from the Foundation for the Promotion of Science and Technology under His Majesty the King in 2010 and Invention award from the Research Council of Thailand in 2008 and 2012 and Excellent International articles from the Science Society of Japan in 2010 and 2011.
