Dr. Mallika Boonmee was the recipient of the Royal Thai Government Scholarship to study in the field of Bioprocess Engineering in Australia. She received her Bachelor of Engineering (Bioprocess) with 1st class honours in 1994 and Doctor of Philosophy (Biotechnology) in 2003 from the University of New South Wales, Australia. She joined the Department of Biotechnology, Faculty of Technology, Khon Kaen University after her graduation. She is now holding the assistant professorship and is now head of the Department (as in 2010). Her research interest has been on the improvement of bio-based chemical production process through the study of microbial kinetics. She specialises in lactic acid bacteria kinetics especially of lactic starter cultures. Her other research includes ethanol production from lignocellulosic material. Dr. Boonmee has experiences in conducting researches with government and private sectors, both collaborative and contracted researches. From 2009, she has been the main player in developing and conducting the research program on gamma-aminobutyric acid production by microbial conversion at Khon Kaen University, with the grant from the Agricultural Research Development Agency (ARDA).
